Position Summary: 

The Product Development Associate Scientist assists in product development, planning, designing, validations, instrument calibrations, formulation of liquids and powder supplements, and developing test requirements and any special testing equipment/apparatus to establish product and/or customer specifications. They will assist in day-to-day laboratory operations including sample handling & testing, lab supply inventory, lab cleaning, stability testing, and equipment maintenance. The Associate Scientist also directs and performs the testing of prototypes accordingly to verify product reliability and performance requirements.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in product development formulation, creating prototypes of new and existing products such as personal care, cosmetics, supplements, and pharmaceutical drug products in their final dosage forms, such as tablets, soft gels, liquids, etc.
  • Assist in research innovation for clean label excipient systems; follow cGMP guidelines and processes established in department SOP and develop internal physical specifications.
  • Contribute to Raw Material Management related to PD, Experimental Formula Development, Prototype Development, Physical Product Testing, and Drug-Excipient Compatibility testing.
  • Assist the lead Scientists/formulators with laboratory tasks, review and document laboratory work, and help maintain orderly and compliant laboratory spaces to support all new product development projects.
  • Assist in developing, validating, and standardizing complex analytical methods for material characterization.
  • Prepare material for analysis, perform tasks according to standard operating procedures, consulting engineers, chemists, and scientists to interpret results, and develop non-standardized testing.
  • Determine and track resource needs and consumables and order supplies as needed.
  • Maintains a safe and orderly laboratory and ensures compliance with safety policies and practices.
  • Must be able to review, witness, and verify appropriate documentation for lab-related activities.
  • Be flexible enough to adapt to different tasks and documentation requirements for different product categories, such as drug products, dietary supplements, and cosmetics regulations in different geographical regions.
  • Might travel to customers, suppliers, outside labs, or research facilities to run trials, troubleshoot problems, and participate in conferences and tradeshows.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Associate of Science with at least 1 year of lab experience
  • Exceptional project management and multi-tasking skills
  • Ability to work in a lab setting with competency in chemistry
  • Must be efficient, creative, detail-oriented, and focused
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, or related field (highly preferred)
  • 2+ years of product development experience in food or cosmetics preferred
  • Working knowledge of the market and competitive products preferred
  • Knowledge of GMPs, ISO 22716, GLP, QA&QC, cGMP, and FDA regulatory standards preferred
  • Must work well under pressure and enjoy a fast-paced work environment

Physical Demands / Work Environment:

  • Must be able to sit/stand for 8 hours.
  • Walking, bending, light lifting up to 50 lbs.
